Why the WE Knife Company Nightblade Is a Must-See

It’s hard to put the spotlight on any WE Knife Company model if only for the fact that there are so many great ones.

It’s hard to put the spotlight on any WE Knife Company model if only for the fact that there are so many great ones.

But with that said, some new releases (or rather, slated releases) deserve a few minutes of fame. They’re probably going to substantiate the fanfare with long tenures at the tops of “best of” lists.

One of them is the WE Knife Company Nightblade, which is brand new (you still can’t get it from some sellers) and which offers a lot of features collectors (and users) will appreciate.

So let’s talk more at length about the WE Nightblade.

Simple but Practical Design

The first thing you’re probably going to notice about the WE Nightblade is how simplistic the design is.

Overall it’s 6.96”, with a basic drop-point knife blade profile and an equally simple handle shape that is scooped on one side, which helps with control and indexing.

The handle scale material is 6AL4V titanium, which is lighter and more corrosion resistant than steel, while still maintaining exceptional strength.

As far as aesthetics are concerned, the Nightblade is available in two main configurations, a polished, bead-blasted version and a black stonewashed version that has attractive gold-tone highlights.

All in all, the simple design of this knife is something you could almost overlook - ultimately, it’s designed to perform, not turn heads.

One more aspect of simplicity. Something that’s rare on many modern folders, the Nightblade opens via the action of a nail nick as opposed to thumb studs or a flipper.

Which, if you’re a purist, is something you might actually appreciate.

A Great Lock Type

One of the biggest aspects of the Nightblade, in terms of a selling point, is that it is made with what WE Knife Company calls a “crossbar lock.”

If you’re not familiar, this is basically the same thing as Benchmade’s AXIS lock. It works exactly the same way.

It is one of the strongest folding knife lock designs that’s ever been created, does not favor one hand over the other, and most importantly, it is very safe to use, as you can engage and disengage the lock with one hand without putting your fingers in the way of the blade’s path.

The Steel

Lastly, the steel is a massive selling point with respect to this WE Knife Company model. It’s 20-CV, which is a high-end, Crucible Particle Metalluriges, “super steel.”

The main chemical constituents of CPM 20-CV are chromium (20%), carbon (1.9%), vanadium (4%), tungsten (.6%) and manganese (.3%).

Tungsten and vanadium form carbides with carbon, which improve hardness, wear-resistance and edge retention of the alloy.

But another massive benefit of this alloy is the concentration of chromium, which makes this one of the best corrosion-resistant alloys out there.
