Before starting serious preparation, it's crucial to check your eligibility for the CSIR NET Life Science exam. Meeting the standards set by CSIR/NTA is non-negotiable, especially for those aiming for the prestigious Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).

Educational Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree Holders: M.Sc. or equivalent degree in Life Sciences or allied fields (including Integrated BS-MS) is required.

  • Engineering/Medical Graduates: Degrees like MBBS, BE, B.Tech, B.Pharma are also accepted.

  • Minimum Marks:
    ➔ General, EWS, and OBC candidates must have 55% aggregate (no rounding off).
    ➔ SC, ST, PwD, and Third Gender candidates need 50% aggregate.

  • Result Awaited (RA) Candidates: Final-year students can apply provisionally but must complete their degree within two years after NET results are declared.

  • B.Sc. (Hons.)/Integrated MS-PhD: Eligible with required marks but fellowship is granted only after enrollment in a Ph.D. program within two years.

  • 4-Year UG Degree Holders: Candidates with a 4-year bachelor's degree (minimum 75% aggregate, or 70% for reserved categories) can apply for JRF and Ph.D. admission but not for Assistant Professor roles.

Age Limits:

  • JRF: Maximum 30 years as of the cut-off date (check the official June 2025 notification for updates).

  • Age Relaxation:
    5 years for SC, ST, Third Gender, PwD, and female candidates.
    3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer).

  • Lectureship/Assistant Professor (LS/AP): No upper age limit.
