Drilling Fluid System
Drilling fluids, also known as drilling muds, are formulated using Oilfield Chemicals to form a drilling fluid system. The drilling fluid system performs important functions of carrying cuttings from the drill bit, controlling downhole pressure, lubricating and cooling the drill bit. Common chemicals used in drilling fluids include barite, bentonite, polymers, KCl etc. These chemical additives impart important characteristics to the drilling fluid like viscosity, density, lubricity.
Stimulation and Production
After drilling, Oilfield Chemicals are used for well completion and production enhancement operations. Acidizing is a common stimulation technique in Oilfield Chemicals where hydrochloric acid and other acids are pumped into the reservoir to increase flow. Fracturing involves pumping proppants like sand and chemical fracturing fluids to induce cracks in the rock. Emulsifiers, surfactants, breakers etc. are some Oilfield Chemicals used in these processes.
