With global power relations continuously shifting, India’s strategic partnerships with major actors on the international stage are increasingly in the spotlight. India is not merely a regional player, but a global actor, with strategic partnerships that concede relationships across defense, economy, energy and technology, where these partnerships reinforce foreign policy endeavors but also provide vital frameworks for global cooperation in 21st century international relations. Here is an analysis of the strategic partnerships India is using to navigate its global ambitions provided by BreakingNews.

India’s strategic partnership with the United States tops the list. The Indo-U.S. relationship went from a somewhat cautious, second-step engagement to a strategic alliance over the past 20 years, but it was largely through the 2005 Civil Nuclear Agreement that established an expansive vision. The depth and expanse of the partnership includes defense cooperation, space exploration, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and clean energy. Recently, the two countries are advancing the partnership with INDUS-X, a defense innovation bridge, while also working in concert with Japan and Australia through the QUAD.

India's relationship with France is notable for their long-standing trust and shared values on the global stage. France has emerged as one of India's most trusted defense and strategic partners, including providing key military capabilities such as the Rafale fighter jets and conducting bilateral maritime exercises in India's Indian Ocean theatre. France collaborates with India in other areas too, including supporting India's transition to clean energy through the International Solar Alliance (ISA), which both nations co-founded. At BreakingNews, we continue to follow this burgeoning relationship, which strengthens India's international legitimacy.

Beyond France, India has also historically partnered with Russia. While the West has reached unprecedented tensions with Russia, India continues to execute a careful needle act of balancing its interests with Moscow, while also preserving its military and energy relationship. Importantly, although India is diversifying its military supplier base, Russian arms equipment account for a considerable share of India's military assets—roughly 70%. Additionally, India's engagement in space technology, nuclear energy, and oil "trade" with Russia are all part of the changing global geopolitical landscape within the confines of the Indo-Russian strategic partnership.

In Asia, Japan has emerged as a significant economic and technological partner for India. Japan has committed much of their funding to significant infrastructure projects in India, such as the Mumbai to Ahmedabad bullet train and metro systems in different cities. The strategic convergence also extends to maritime security and joint initiatives meant to contribute to a free Indo-Pacific. India and Japan's ambitions in all of these endeavours highlights a deepening partnership built on shared purpose.

India's strategic connections with the Middle East have grown significantly, especially with the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The commencement of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) has provided an unprecedented opportunity to amass connectively, trade, and infrastructure between areas. Energy security, diaspora, and increased investment flow, establish the relationship as a lynchpin of India's West Asia diplomacy.

As the global order rebalances, India is also pursuing closer ties with countries like Australia, Israel, Vietnam, and South Korea, particularly in the areas of defence production, technology transfer, and regional security. All, a representation of India's multilateralism commitment, regional cooperation, and reach towards strategic autonomy.
