Western Turf & Hardscapes is a fourth-generation, family-owned business based in Reno, Nevada, specializing in turf farm management and outdoor landscaping products. Established in 1978 by the Fahnestock family, the company has grown into the largest sod farm in Northern Nevada, cultivating over 400 acres of locally grown, drought-tolerant turf blends tailored to the high-desert climate.

Our Story

The Fahnestock family's journey began in 1978 in Winnemucca, Nevada, before relocating to Dayton in 1983 and finally settling in Palomino Valley in 1986. Harry Fahnestock joined the family business in 1981, taking on various roles from delivery driver to equipment maintenance. By 1984, he assumed full operational control of the company, which he continues to lead alongside his wife, Joanne. Their commitment to sustainable practices is evident through active involvement in water conservation initiatives, including Harry's role as a commissioner on the Northern Nevada Water Planning Commission.

Steve Milan – Farm Manager, responsible for day-to-day farm activities and maintenance.

Our Farm

Located just minutes from Reno and Sparks, Western Turf operates the largest sod farm in Northern Nevada. Utilizing advanced production equipment, the farm produces high-quality sod blends that are climatized for the region's environment.
