A score appears on the screen: “64% likely AI-generated.” For a teacher in Kyiv, an editor in Seoul, or a student in either city, that number can feel like a verdict. It is not one. A детектор ШІ (an AI detector, where ШІ stands for штучний інтелект) produces a statistical estimate, and the estimate gets shakier when the text is not in English.
This article explains how these tools work, why Ukrainian and Korean provide special challenges, and how to interpret the results without taking them at face value.
Most detectors are classifiers. Developers train them on large collections of text labeled as human-written or machine-generated. After identifying the patterns that typically distinguish the two, the technology analyzes fresh text to those patterns and provides a probability.
Two ideas appear in most explanations. The first is predictability: language models favor statistically likely words, so unusually smooth text can score as machine-generated. The second is variation: people often mix long and short sentences unevenly, while unedited model output can read more uniformly.
Neither signal is conclusive. A tool can describe how a text looks, but it cannot observe how the text was written.
Many detection systems were built primarily around English. A tool’s accuracy in another language can differ, and vendors do not always publish how they tested it.
Ukrainian is a highly inflected language. Nouns, adjectives, and verbs change form depending on case, gender, and number, so a single idea can appear in many surface forms. Ukrainian writers also often draw on Russian-language sources or mix registers, which can confuse systems trained on narrower data. A detector with strong English support may still handle Ukrainian poorly.
Korean attaches particles and endings directly to words, which makes splitting text into meaningful units more complicated than in English. Formal and informal speech levels also change how a sentence looks. An AI 글 검사 (an AI writing check) that does not state Korean support may misread perfectly ordinary human writing.
If you check Ukrainian or Korean text, choose a tool that names the language explicitly instead of assuming it works equally well everywhere.
Accuracy limits are well documented. OpenAI released its own AI text classifier in early 2023 and withdrew it a few months later, citing a low rate of accuracy. A 2023 Stanford study also found that several detectors wrongly flagged writing by non-native English speakers as AI-generated, likely because simpler phrasing looks predictable to an algorithm. That finding matters for multilingual students and professionals who write in a second language.
Other common weak spots include:
The reverse also happens: lightly revised machine text can look human, so a low score does not guarantee human authorship.
Ukraine’s Law on Education defines academic integrity as a set of principles that includes honest authorship and proper source attribution, and universities in both countries have their own rules about acceptable AI use. Policies vary widely by school, department, and publisher, so a detector result only means something in light of the rules that apply to the document in question. Always check your institution’s current policy before drawing conclusions.
Treat a high score as a reason to start a conversation, not as evidence of misconduct. Ask the writer to explain their argument and sources. Request earlier drafts or notes, and compare the text with their previous work. A writer who can discuss their reasoning in detail demonstrates authorship in a way no percentage can.
If you use AI for brainstorming or proofreading, follow the disclosure rules of your school or publisher. Keep outlines, drafts, and research notes so you can show how the work developed if it is ever questioned. Checking your own text beforehand can show how a reviewer’s tool might read it, and for a second opinion you can try [ANCHOR TEXT](TARGET URL). Different tools often return different scores for the same passage, so no single result should settle the question.
A few questions separate careful tools from careless ones:
A детектор ШІ or an AI 글 검사 can be a useful first screen, but neither can prove who wrote a text, and both become less dependable outside English.Combine the outcomes with drafts, discussions, and explicit institutional guidelines. Used that way, these tools support honest authorship rather than penalizing the writers they were meant to protect.
